Starting off my list with the most dramatic opening theme from a game I played in 2016. The opening theme of Deus Ex Mankind Divided ratcheted up the dramatic level of the music, and is a great followup to the superb opening credit sequence in Human Revolution. Mankind divided is a game I have not been able to play yet, but just seeing the opening sequence and listening to the released soundtrack makes me pumped to play more Deus Ex..
Most Played Song Outside Of A Video Game: Major Lazer – Night Riders (ft. Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Pusha T, & Mad Cobra)
Major Lazer – Night Riders (ft. Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Pusha T, & Mad Cobra) (Official Music Video)
OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO // MAJOR LAZER – NIGHT RIDERS (FEAT. TRAVIS SCOTT, 2 CHAINZ, PUSHA T, & MAD COBRA). SUBSCRIBE TO THE MAJOR LAZER YOUTUBE CHANNEL TO WATCH MORE!
You may have heard of Major Lazer’s “Lean On” which has been both overplayed on mainstream radio, and remixed to death on the internet. Night Riders, is lesser played track in the same album. The track is featured in Need For Speed 2015 which I finished and wrote an extensive article about this year. The song fits the urban street racing vibe of Need For Speed, whenever the song plays in garage while I am modding my car, I involuntarily start bopping my head, and feeling cool. The song makes you feel cool and chill while drifting through the streets of Ventura Bay at night,.Outside of just the video game, it is a song that resonated with me throughout this year. I replayed the song dozens of times this year while driving or commuting on the bus. For what it is worth the music video came out this year. The music video actually tells a pretty interesting narrative with a twist, and with some attractive looking models. The track also features one rapper Pusha T which as a sidenote, also has his own track in Need For Speed soundtrack titled “Push It”.
Most Played Radio Song While Playing Forza Horizon 3 – Higher (feat. James Chatburn)” by Hilltop Hoods
Hilltop Hoods – Higher Feat. James Chatburn
Buy ‘Higher Feat.
Forza Horizon 3 is my first Forza game I played because its finally avaliable on PC (abet with a caveat it is on the Windows 10 Store) It is a fun open world featuring Australia. It’s a racing game that allows for customization, and open-ended shenanigans that I have been longing for since the days of Need For Speed Underground.I generally, enjoyed the tracklist in Forza Horizon 3. In particular though, Hilltop Hoods was a band I discovered because of the game. If Night Rider makes me feel cool, Higher makes me feel inspired and kept me motivated. The song’s lyrics, and instrumentals has helped me get through a tough day at work.
Most Nostalgic Soundtrack – Sound Collection of Xuan-Yuan Sword EX:The Gate of Firmament
The Gate of Firmament – Descendants of Xuanyuan
One of the songs from the original sound collection. The first normal battle theme in the game that plays around the Youxiong Village area. the,gate,of,firmament,xuan,yuan,sword,ex,chinese,rpg,軒轅劍外傳穹之扉,xuan-yuan,ost,original,soundtrack,rip,gamerip
As a childhood fan of the chinese RPG Legend of Sword and Fairy (Chinese Paladin) (a longer discussion for later) I was surprised to see that Softstar Entertainment Inc released Xuan Yuan Sword EX The Gate of Firmament on Steam with English localization. The Legend of Sword and Fairy series was my Final Fantasy growing up. With themes and narrative structure reminiscent of those games. The music in the Gate of Firmament hits my childhood nostalgia. I have highlighted one of the combat themes in the game which most sounds inspired directly from The Legend of Sword and Fairy. The soundtrack features a lot of chinese flutes and lutes, typical of what is heard in many Chinese Wuxia television and movie drama. While visually and gameplay systems are quite simplistic compared to that of present Final Fantasy counterpart the writing and presentation still evokes the feeling of playing a Chinese Wuxia drama.
Most Likely to Be In a Fan-Made Video Game Music Video Rapid played in 2016 ONE OK ROCK: Bedroom Warfare

ONE OK ROCK, is a japanese alternative rock band. The song Taking Off was their attempt at a break out into american with a single this year. The band’s new sound, and all english lyrics -to try to appeal to an american audience have been met with mixed-feelings from fans of the traditional ONE OK ROCK. The lyrics, about ambition, and put oneself at risk in order to success against poor odds is what made me think the song should belong in a video game trailer. ONE OK ROCK has actually done a song for a video game promotion before, with Nothing Helps featured in a promo trailer for DMC (Devil May Cry).
Great Original Trailer Theme Music – Divided (Trailer Mix) [feat. Tori Letzler]
Divide – Trailer #2 | PS4
Copyright © 2017 Exploding Tuba, LLC ‘Divide,’ a Sci-Fi Adventure Launching On PS4 on January 31st, 2017 dividegame.com Divide is a character-driven, science fiction action/adventure game with a modern take on isometric adventures of the past. Search for clues that reveal new insight into the story, interact with fully realized characters, and combat enemies by hacking out of sight, or launching a direct assault.
Divide is the first game of indie developer Exploding Tuba Studios that composer Chris Tilton is Game Director, and also worked on its soundtrack. Now I have not played the game, (the game is set for release in early 2017) but the music is already available to buy and stream online. Chris Tilton is probably most acclaimed for his composed music in the television series, Fringe. In video games, he has composed the original score for Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Sim City. Chris Tilton’s music is very distinct sounding the way he mixes orchestrated symphonic sounds with just a touch of digital synthesizer music to evoke tone and atmosphere. If you heard or listen to his previous works, you can tell right away that Divide was composed by Tilton.
2016’s Overwatch Rap Remix – Our Watch is Not Over – Broken Pixels
Overwatch Rap – ” Our Watch is Not Over “
Overwatch may have been shut down but we are not out! Our watch is NOT over!
I probably cannot talk about Video Games in 2016 without at least mentioning Overwatch. Therefore, I present for your listening pleasure a Overwatch rap song by Broken Pixel. The group releases a lot of rap music about Video Games. The “play of the game” music is probably the most iconic of track of Overwatch, and Broken Pixels has with written rap lyrics for it that not only sound great but keeps within the tone of the game.
Most Tense Soundtrack of 2016 – XCOM 2 Soundtrack: Combat Music 6 (‘Ambush’) Composed By Tim Wynn

XCOM 2 may not get the recognition it deserves, however the campaign was one of the emotionally immersed games I played in 2016. With the upgrades on enemies, and new enemy types added to XCOM 2 I basically had to throw out all the strategies and tricks I learned back in Enemy Unknown. A lot my time in XCOM 2 would be sitting on a turn, trying to analyze and plan out my moves. How to get to the objective in less than 10 turns without losing more of my non-rookie soldiers? All the contemplation, and in the midst of it all the music in XCOM 2 become embedded in my mind. This combat track is one of my favorites from XCOM 2 since it plays usually when the you go out of stealth and the battle is now engaged. it is both tense, and yet soothing at the same time because it plays at the point when you are just about to make your next move.
Best Marriage of Soundtrack to Game of 2016 – Doom (Original Game Soundtrack) – Mick Gordon
DOOM – Original Game Soundtrack – Mick Gordon & id Software
Created by Mick Gordon, the DOOM Original Soundtrack includes completely rearranged and composed tracks from the game, one new track from id Software’s Chris Hite, a new remixed track from id Software’s Chad Mossholder, and a few other surprises for the fans. Spanning 31 tracks and 128 minutes, the soundtrack is organized into four distinct chapters (I.
Hold up Rapid, you said this list was 10 lesser known Soundtrack of 2016. Everyone knows how good the Doom soundtrack is. Well yes, but it is my list so I make the rules! Although, I want to talk more about one aspect of the sound design that makes the music work so well with game that the developers implemented and that is the melodic sounds that are used in during Glory-Kills composed by Mick Gordon. When a player goes in for Glory Kill they will get a brief break in the normal music track, and the game will play a guitar riff that sound effects that matches with the sound of ripping and tear being visually presented on screen. The music itself is a motivator for the player, and it is these little touches that are what made the music a part of the immersion in the game.
2016’s Best follow up Soundtrack to 2015 – The War Within – Keith Power and George Spanos
Warframe – The War Within (Soundtrack)
Music featured in the War Within composed by Keith Power and George Spanos Check out my Channel or Rapid Chronicles for more story playthroughs and details when events are coming. Rapid Chronicles {http://rapidchronicles.com} Thanks for Watching!
A list by me would not feel complete without at least one nodd to Warframe. I want to highlight a new soundtrack that was composed for The War Within expansion to Warframe. The soundtrack is followup to the amazing track “This Is What You Are” introduced in the Second Dream in 2015. As mentioned in my game of the year 2015, the music is tied to the emotional journey experienced in the Second Dream that rejuvenated my love for the game. Giving Warframe fans something completely unexpected, much like was the revelations in Second Dream. It raised the bar of Warframe. With that said, the new soundtrack is one the best things to come of the War Within. Although not hitting the same emotional levels as This is What You Are. The War Within soundtrack completely sets a different tone for the the game, but one that is appropriate fits the narrative of War Within quest. The War Within is set in a secluded, mysterious and is a dangerous place never seen before by the Tenno. Stepping into unknown territory, the music communities effectively sense of foreboding and uncertainty. The soundtrack has very slow lingering melody, which then abruptly implodes, increasing tempo as things escalate out of control. Here is hoping 2017 will continue the trend of great Warframe music.
